Education

The Education Committee oversees the process of awarding scholarships in memory of Nita Gooch and Debbie Harger each year. The money is provided by various fund raisers, including the golf tournament, good news, bad news, the shredding event, and donations. The recipients are female high school seniors and college students.

The Committee distributes scholarship applications to local Katy high schools, coordinating with the National ABWA, and making the awards at one of our dinner meetings later in the spring.for recipients and families. They also decide how many scholarships will be awarded and what amounts, based on the monies collected.

Nita Gooch was a charter member of the Katy Charter Chapter and remained a member until her death in November 2002. She spread cheer and love in the chapter as The Sunshine Lady. We honor Nita with the Nita Gooch Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Debbie Harger was a charter member of the Katy Charter Chapter and remained a member until her untimely death. Debbie served as our Secrectary. We honor Debbie with the Debbie Harger Memorial Scholarship Fund. "She's in the News", our newsletter is named in honor of Debbie. She was the name of her dress shop.

It is our honor to have known these two great professional business women and for them to have been involved in the Katy Charter Chapter of ABWA.
